I wanted a reliable way to run a USB cable through a wall without compromising its connections or structural integrity, particularly since my specific setup involves an exterior WiFi antenna that requires ease of access. To address this challenge, I created a custom solution designed to maintain a snug seal around the cable while ensuring durability and protection against external elements. Although I haven't subjected it to extensive waterproof testing, personal experience has proven its utility during harsh summer conditions with heavy rain. My design involves three primary components: two wall plates, two covers, and an adjustable-length pipe. The tooth on the pipe is positioned for a snug seal outside the wall. This design leverages the natural elasticity of the USB cable's rubber coating to serve as the primary sealant. To ensure optimal results, I recommend using the following printing settings: Printer: Choose any type Rafts: Optional; not required for proper functionality Supports: Yes; this will help maintain structural integrity and a smooth finish Resolution: .2 LH minimal Notes: When printing, it's essential to emphasize strength and reliability. Consider incorporating multiple shells to ensure added protection and solidity. Adequate infill support is also critical for maintaining the design's overall integrity. Specific considerations during printing are crucial for a successful outcome. The wall plates require sufficient support during the printing process to maintain their shape and prevent structural weaknesses. Printing them with the pipe positioned below will help preserve the tooth's cleanliness. For cover plates, printing may necessitate support depending on your specific printer setup; however, it's vital to maintain cleanliness inside the plates due to tight tolerances. Lastly, print the pipe vertically, ensuring that the tooth remains at the top for a round and durable seal.
