The United States Coast Guard (USCG) Short Range Interceptor is a high-performance launch that measures 7 metres in length and accelerates to high speeds. Capable of launching from cutters at speed, it utilizes a rear-mounted launching ramp for swift deployment. Designed as a rigid hull inflatable, the Short Range Interceptor is propelled by water-jets, making it an ideal vessel for intercepting and boarding suspect vessels at high speeds. Equipped with advanced radar systems and shock-absorbing seats, this launch can reach speeds of up to 30 knots. As part of the Deepwater program, the refitted Island class Patrol cutters will be equipped with one Short Range Interceptor each. The proposed Fast Response Cutters will also feature a single launch of this type. Meanwhile, the proposed National Security Cutters and Offshore Patrol Cutters will boast two rear-mounted launching ramps, enabling them to carry either two Short Range Interceptors or two Long Range Interceptors, or a combination of one of each.
