This specimen, a male black bear, was collected by W.M. Manson in 1917 at Lillooet, Bridge River, British Columbia, Canada. It became available to the University of Texas High-Resolution X-ray CT Facility for scanning thanks to Dr. Blaire Van Valkenburgh of the University of California Los Angeles. The funding for scanning came from a grant provided by Dr. Timothy Rowe of The University of Texas at Austin under the National Science Foundation Digital Libraries Initiative, as well as from Dr. Van Valkenburgh herself.
