Urbanears hinge replacement
thingiverse
I shattered the hinge on my UrbanEars headset, so I reached out to UrbanEars immediately. They directed me to snap one ear off and snip the wire, rendering the device irreparable. I picked up a new headset, but their suggestion seemed like a gauntlet had been thrown down. So, I hustled over to my CAD program and designed a replacement hinge piece on the spot. Now all you need to do is print it out and find a replacement wire! It should mesh perfectly with the little metal part that slipped into the original slot. Sincerely, Joey Print Settings: Printer: K8200 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2-0.3 Infill: 40%-100% How I Engineered This: 1.1 - Initial Design Sketch 1.2 - Reenvisioned the sliding track and elongated the top to print better and be stronger. 1.3. - Streamlined the length of the component. Instructions: Hit up UrbanEars and follow their instructions to procure a new headset. They'll instruct you to sever the wire and snap one ear off. Slice it in two under the headband, making repair simpler. Print out the part. Assemble it carefully. Burn off the coating on the wires using a lighter – but be cautious, as it flames up fast, so blow it out pronto! Rejoin the wire with non-solder metal connections, if you can – soldering these thin wires is extremely challenging. Don't forget to insulate them securely. I've got a tutorial video ready; now I just need to get around editing it.
