Uranus at The Palace of Versailles, France

Uranus, meaning "sky" or "heaven," was a primal Greek god embodying the sky itself. His Roman counterpart was Caelus. In ancient Greek literature, Uranus, known as Father Sky, was both the son and husband of Gaia, Mother Earth. According to Hesiod's Theogony, Uranus was conceived by Gaia alone, though other sources claim Aether as his father. Uranus and Gaia produced the first generation of Titans, ancestors to most Greek gods, but no cult directly honoring Uranus survived into classical times, and he is absent from typical Greek painted pottery themes. However, elemental Earth, Sky, and Styx might be combined in a solemn invocation within Homeric epic. This object is part of "Scan The World".
