Upwind Boat
thingiverse
This is my own creation for a "sailboat" capable of traveling directly upwind with ease. A fun toy to let loose on the lake and watch it drift away. The wind powers the air propeller which in turn drives the water propeller via an elastic band. A set of small rollers sits inside the mast to guide the elastic band and prevent friction. The elastic band serves a dual purpose by also securing the water prop in place. The boat remains pointed upwind thanks to a weather-vane tiller connected to the rudder by another elastic band. As the wind direction shifts, the tiller is blown sideways, causing the rudder to turn and steer the boat back into the wind. All components are 100% 3D printable, except for two elastic bands. All STL files are properly oriented for printing, simply drop them in and print. Every part can be fitted on a standard 200mm x 200mm build plate at the same time - if you're feeling adventurous!
