Upside Down Camera Handle
prusaprinters
I modelled this simple handle in Blender to smoothly rotate the camera 180°. We used it to do a transition similar to the one into the Upside-Down (Stranger Things). It was made for a middle school video about cyberbullying (link at the end of the description). The filming was done by a student: the handle required some practice, but it worked as expected with our Canon EOS 1300D (aka Rebel T6/Kiss X80).The same rig can be used for ground level shots.AssemblyThe handle is made of 3 parts: the top L-shaped piece, the bottom J-shaped one and the small cap to block the Hot Shoe Mount Adapter. You can mount the top handle in two different ways. You don't need to use glue, as the parts interlock together easily. The Hot Shoe Mount Adapter should fit fine into the cap (it was the most challenge part to design!)Paper masking tape can be used to increase friction between parts and improve stability. The final result is quite sturdy. We did a lot of rotations to achieve the right transitions and the camera never moved.PrintingYou don't need a large format printer: I printed the lower J-shaped piece together with the cap with my Prusa i3 MK2S (codename: Ariel). It took less than 7 hours. The upper L-piece was printed by my Ender 3 Pro (codename: Mogura). It took about 7 hours.Material: Prusa PLALayer height: 0.2 mmInfill: 10%Supports: Yes (from build plate only)Hardware needed:1 Hot Shoe Mount Adapter https://www.amazon.com/Camera-Mount-Tripod-Screw-Adapter/dp/B018UJLIOE/Extra filesBlender file is included for remixing.Usage exampleThis is the school video short for which the handle was made (Friendship is stronger, 1 minute long). It shows two examples of rotations made with the handle.
