Update to Samsung Nexus car cradle.
thingiverse
Recently, I installed a 3800mAh battery with a new back cover, increasing the phone's thickness by 5.4mm, making it incompatible with my initial cradle design. As a result, I replaced my soft gel case with a bumper one that fits perfectly with the new back cover. The updated cradle design accommodates both standard Nexus phones (with or without bumpers) and extended battery covers (also with bumpers), enabling charging using a USB adapter. To avoid any reservations about self-printing, I removed the "by Shaughan" label. Upon printing, users have the option to purchase a micro USB car charging cable. Insert it through the square hole at the base, slide the phone down until it seats, and then apply super glue around the plug and hole for secure positioning. After drying, remove the phone and add more glue or fill any gaps with silastic or aradite for a permanent fit. The sliding motion aligns the phone with the micro USB plug every time. The holder features four holes at the back for attaching a cheap Samsung car holder from eBay. It comes with a suction cup for the windshield or a vent mount, costing around $14. The rectangular part with four tangs fits into the holder and locks in securely. Additionally, there's a larger recess and thin channel at the back for an antenna coil found on eBay. Positioned behind the phone, it enables the use of an external car antenna, with the cable exiting via the channel.
