UPDATE: Simple dual fan mount for MK8 direct drive extruder
thingiverse
I redesigned a simple fan holder based on this thing: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1423957. It mounts two 40mm fans at the extruder to cool down objects, replacing one of the spacers between the heat sink and the fan on the side. I printed it in PLA with 0.2mm height, 10% infill, and no support. After printing, I drilled the holes for the fans up to 4mm. UPDATE: I uploaded V5, the latest version. The fans are now positioned a bit to the left for better alignment with the extruder and more consistent cooling. I also made the screw holes bigger so they don't need drilling. Now you can use it directly after printing without any modifications. No picture is available yet, but compare the STLs to see the difference. Side note: I printed my holder in PLA, which isn't ideal for a part near the hot end. It began to soften and deform during a print (slow speed, large 1st layer, 240deg at the hot end, no fans on the first layer). Now I enable fans from the start, and the problem is gone along with improved printing quality.
