UP Mini Extruder stepper platform and wind barrier modded for better motor cooling
thingiverse
The extruder stepper motor temperature was measured after one hour of printing with all covers off and door open while using the same model printed for each test at layer 20. The original stepper motor platform had a fluctuating temperature of 55-58°C. A modded platform with air holes reduced the temperature to 47-50°C. An improved wind barrier sealing brought it down to a steady 54.7°C, while a new wind barrier design decreased it further to 48.7°C. Reversing the fan's air flow had minimal impact, with a steady temperature of 48°C observed. Perforating the stepper motor platform seemed to make the most significant difference. Instructions were given on how to gently remove support plastic and install the new wind barrier, which includes slots for an LED light strip that may or may not fit the original one. A 3mm tap is needed for fan screw holes, and the hardware provided mounts in the original spot with four screws instead of two.
