Printer temperature readings taken after one hour of continuous printing with all covers removed and door wide open, to optimize heat dissipation and minimize warping issues during large print jobs. Using identical printer settings and model prints at layer 20 for each test case, the original stepper motor platform exhibited a consistent temperature range of 55-58 degrees Celsius. Next, modifications were made to the stepper motor platform by drilling air holes into it. This resulted in a noticeable decrease in temperature fluctuation, ranging from 47-50 degrees Celsius. Further improvements were achieved by sealing gaps around the wind barrier with an enhanced design, which produced a steady reading of 54.7 degrees Celsius during continuous printing. A new wind barrier design was then implemented, yielding a consistent temperature of 48.7 degrees Celsius under identical test conditions. To further optimize cooling performance, the fan air flow direction was reversed. This change had a minimal impact on the overall temperature reading, which remained steady at 48 degrees Celsius. Key findings from these experiments reveal that perforating the stepper motor platform has the greatest effect in reducing temperature fluctuations. Conversely, reversing the fan exhaust airflow appears to have negligible effects on printer temperatures. For users wishing to install this modified wind barrier design, a few precautions must be taken. When removing support plastic from the stepper motor platform, it is essential to handle the area with care to avoid damaging any critical components. The new wind barrier mounts directly into the original location using existing hardware. Two additional screw holes were drilled into the wind barrier to accommodate the fan, allowing for secure attachment via four screws instead of two. These screws are 3mm x 16mm socket head type and should be replaced with identical fasteners to maintain structural integrity. The wind barrier also features slots for an LED light strip, although compatibility with the original strip may vary. To facilitate installation, a 3mm tap will be required for creating screw holes in the fan attachment area.
