Updates 24/03/2020 (3) Bear_w_filter printed perfectly without supports and the filter unit fit in seamlessly. However, I didn't print a gasket to seal the outside, which is essential for proper functionality. When I get a chance, I'll test-print a TPU gasket to see how it fits. Right now, I'm printing Raven_w_filter to ensure it works as well. Not sure why the other STLs are not displaying. Maybe they just need more time. 24/03/2020 (2) I've uploaded 3 masks with an open vent and 3 with threads to hold a filter cartridge. I used my wife's makeup pads as filters, placing the material inside the cartridge and screwing on the top cap. The whole filter cartridge assembly then gets screwed onto the mask. A gasket between the mask and the filter cartridge will provide a better seal. I printed a partial test print to check the fit but haven't yet checked with a complete mask. I have a print running and will verify this as soon as it's finished. Obviously, the gasket should be printed in TPU or made by hand using some flexible/soft material. 24/03/2020 (1) I've just uploaded 3 low-resolution STLs to see if file size is causing the issue with STLs not displaying as thumbnails. Looks like the low-resolution STLs will display, but high-res ones cause it to hang. Note: I've temporarily removed masks with filter holes while I work on a better filter design. Once I get the sizes right, I'll upload the fixed models. 23/03/2020 (3) Just uploaded some slightly altered versions in an attempt to use them as actual particulate filter masks. The new versions have a single vent hole which hopefully will fit with an insertable filter unit that I'm currently test-printing. The filter unit requires the user to provide some kind of filter material that can be inserted into the filter cartridge. In order to fit the cartridge into the mask, there needs to be a couple of gaskets, which can be hand-cut or printed using TPU. I'll upload the filter cartridge parts once I've test-printed them (assuming they will work). 23/03/2020 (2) Added Thunderbird to the group. 22/03/2020 (1) Okay, I've taken some liberties and named my masks. They are rather stylized, so forgive the inaccuracies of the representations. I've renamed the original to Raven and have uploaded a new one which I've named Bear. Summary I started playing with Fusion360's form tools, and since I'd been trying TPU to make masks and then switched to PLA to make hard-shell filter masks, I decided something a little more creative could be done instead of the same old standard filter mask. Introducing the new, fashionable, hard-case filter mask. Inspired by the plague masks of Europe but trying to keep a more West Coast theme. If I can figure out Fusion360 a bit more, I should be able to produce costume masks of any kind soon. This mask can be printed with no supports. I did use a brim to hold it in place and printed at 0.3 layer height and 120 mm/s. A smaller layer height and slower print would give a better finish, but 2 hours was long enough to wait for a prototype, and other than what looks like some coasting blemishes, it turned out quite nicely. The edge that contacts the face can be lined with some foam and/or the edge can be heated and carefully bent to fit the face better. I'll add others here when I make them. I can alter the nose area if it needs to be adjusted. I fitted it to my own face, and I have a relatively high nose bridge. If you do need to use it as a filter mask, you would need to shove something down the nose. Maybe an old sock? Obviously, the filter aspect would require some redesigning, but it can be done if needed.
