The Middelheim Museum in Antwerp is a treasure trove of art. With its open-air setting, the museum showcases more than 100 years of visual arts, attracting over 250,000 visitors annually. The collection boasts approximately 400 works of art gathered over 50 years, spanning from around 1900 to present day. Each year, new pieces are added to the collection, featuring around 215 sculptures by renowned artists such as Auguste Rodin, Rik Wouters, Henry Moore, Juan Muñoz, Carl Andre, Panamarenko, Franz West, Erwin Wurm, and many more. Stately trees, broad paths, and inviting grassy clearings complete the picturesque scene. The museum invites contemporary artists to engage in an artistic dialogue with its permanent collection and park environment each year. This results in high-profile performances and impressive exhibitions by well-known and promising younger artists alike. These new works are often included in the permanent collection. Roman Signer and Ai Weiwei have recently created new pieces specifically for the museum.
