sketchfab

This is a 3D laser surface scan of a fragment of lower jaw with matrix attached, dating between 126,000 and 11,700 years old. It was scanned as part of the Museum's Darwin Fossil Mammals digitization project. Visit www.nhm.ac.uk/darwinsfossils to learn more. This specimen is associated in the collection with one of Toxodon's lower jaws found at Punta Alta, specimen NHMUK PV M 16566, and the preservation is very similar. It's possible it's part of the same specimen as the lower jaw, but there's no obvious join between the two. Toxodon is a type of extinct mammal. The specimen number is NHMUK PV M 102042. Visit the dataset at https://doi.org/10.5519/0086786 and the Museum's Data Portal for images and to request high resolution scan data.
