University of Virginia Rotunda
thingiverse
This is my first upload, a test print for a new printer. I edited a public tremble file associated with Google SketchUp, and after a very tedious effort, created a water-tight STL. THIS IS BY NO MEANS a perfect STL file and will have defects, especially in the courtyard - see printed product photo. The file was scaled by 30% and exported to MeshLab. Upon cleaning and decimating the file, it was exported to MeshMixer and made solid. With a solid STL file, it was sliced with Cura utilizing Red Hatchbox PLA at 60-degree bed temperature and 195 nozzle temperature. A non-scaled model will take approximately three hours to print. Unfortunately, I only had red PLA lying around, which has no symbolism. This would look very good with white marble-based PLA, and it's not recommended to scale below 70% as the columns would dissipate. Again, this is not a great file to print. It was a hobby project and a test print; but, no other UVA Rotunda has been uploaded to Thingiverse. I put more time than intended into editing the SketchUp model and figured I'd upload what I had. Enjoy?! *Update* I further cleaned and uploaded a simplified 3D model (UVA_Rotunda_Simplified_2), which removed a large portion of the surrounding courtyard. This model was printed with white TPU and turned out quite nice - see photo.
