University of Maryland, Chemistry & Biochemistry

myminifactory

My submission to the McGill RepYourDept Design Challenge. The UMD Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry boasts an impressive range of research interests that are showcased in this design. Key components include the inorganic complex (black), a protein structure (red), and our University's iconic mascot, the Terrapin Testudo (gold). The front panel features a cleverly designed lithophane that can be backlit with an LED strip to highlight the lettering and reveal several intricate nanostructures and a DNA double helix. This design allows for flexibility in printing options, as it can be printed as a single piece or in multiple parts. By doing so, we minimize the use of supports and enable multi-color prints, utilizing our University's signature colors: white, red, gold, and black. The back panel proudly displays the script "Terps", a widely recognized abbreviation for Terrapins.
