Universal spool holder / stand / roller - sturdy and quiet
prusaprinters

My take on an universal spool roller / stand / holder. You will need;

Essential;

2 x lengths of M8 threaded rod (112mm length - doesn't have to be too accurate)

4 x 16mm M3 bolts

4 x M3 nuts (nyloc or normal, either is fine)

Optional;

35mm heatshrink (to make the rollers quieter)

Furniture/coaster self adhesive feet

*I recommend printing just the top part of one of the rollers (sink the rest of it beneath the bed in your slicer) so you can test the fit of the bearings. Then you can make scale adjustments if necessary to get a good fit on the bearing.*

Print the parts;

2 x rollers

2 x rails

4 or 8 washers - I recommend printing 8 so that way if you need a little more clearance you can just add another

Assembly

Its quite self explanatory. Insert the bearings in the rollers, then the M8 rod goes in the hole on the rails, insert M3 bolt and M3 nut but don't fully tighten yet. Then add a washer (or 2), then the roller, then another washer (or 2), then the second rail. Lay it on a flat service and then tighten the M3 bolt clamps.

This design can also be used for double, triple, quadruple... e.t.c. spools, by simply using longer rods. If you end up with so many spools you could just add another rail in the middle. You can also easily stretch or shorten the Z scale on the rollers to match your needs.

Any questions, leave a comment.

Print Settings

Printer:

Artillery Sidewinder X1

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2

Infill:

20

Filament:
n/a PLA / PETG / ABS - any
n/a

Notes:

0.2mm layer heights and 20% infill for rails and washers, any layer height for the rollers. I personally used 5 walls for the rollers because its quicker to printer the walls than it is to print infill. As long as you've got at least 3 walls it will be fine.

Category: 3D Printer Accessories
