I made the original shorter to fit on an M3D Micro. I also designed feet, a base piece and a top piece that connect with 5/16" (or M8) threaded rod. The feet and base were adapted from Adjustable size filament spool holder by pwnas. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:118330 I customized my Micro so the internal feed tube goes outside, but you can flip the spool over to feed it into the top external hole in the print head.
