This is an adjustable cradle designed to securely attach a smartphone to a standard tripod using a sturdy thread system. The thread required for my tripod was a 1/4-20 UNC, which appears to be the standard on most tripods, particularly those in the budget-friendly range, whereas professional models may have different specifications. Fortunately, I had a suitable-sized nut readily available in my shed, one of those 'useful' items that often comes in handy when needed. This cradle is likely to accommodate most smartphones, as evidenced by its ability to fit both a compact Nokia Lumia 630 and a larger Samsung Note 4 with a protective case. It also successfully secured an iPhone 7, although I'm uncertain about the compatibility of the 7 Plus model. The V-groove design ensures that buttons and switches are clear, allowing for secure phone attachment. Although it may appear somewhat chunky and could benefit from refinement, once securely fastened in position, users can rest assured that their smartphone is firmly attached. Print Settings: Printer Brand: FlashForge Printer: FlashForge Creator Pro Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.18mm layer height Infill: 15% Notes: I printed this adjustable cradle using my Flashforge Dreamer with standard ABS settings, setting the extruder temperature to 220°C and platform temperature to 105°C. No rafts or supports were used; only pre-extrusion was employed for printing. The main body parts were printed at 15% infill, while the knurled knobs were printed solid. Post-Printing: The three primary components of this adjustable cradle assembled smoothly without requiring any post-print finishing. I inserted a 1/4-20 UNC nut into the base to secure it to my tripod. However, the printed threads proved slightly tight, necessitating a few passes with an M6 bolt to loosen them sufficiently. The knurled knobs presented a different challenge, as they required extensive refinement to fit properly. Next time, I intend to use 5 or 6mm threading on these parts and simply a plain shank for the rest of the design.
