I'm currently working on a bigger project and this setup is one of the first stepping stones. Each wheel gets its own power source, along with its very own steering system. The outer wheel uses six bearings to ride smoothly and is powered by a Pololu 25D 6V motor. I used their drive shaft adapter to connect the outer wheel to the motor, which makes it really reliable. The Sainsmart TPU material was used for the outer tire. For the servo's metal hub, I got it from Servocity and strongly recommend going with their aluminum version instead of my printable design. Their servo mounts are really good too, but be sure to beef them up a bit if you're printing your own. If you have the means, using the aluminum servo mount would definitely be worth the extra cost. The inner set of bearings is not essential and you can still make this project work with printed ones, though they will give you a slightly less robust machine. So far it's been working really well and handling stress very efficiently. But let me know if anyone wants to try making one themselves - I'll send out a parts list.
