Largely driven by http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:283656, but also by http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:971275 and http://micro3dfans.com/download/file.php?id=100&t=1&sid=dd6a0187c45290eb48d930511e0b8567, this design moves forward with a fresh approach. The primary change from the original inspiration is adding space for 2mm washers on either side of the bearing to completely trap it and prevent friction from forming between the box and the side. A further tweak includes space for an additional washer designed to keep the reel centered on the bearings. Consideration is given to ease of printing, and in this respect, the design should print very well and will be tough enough not to move at 4mm thick edges (which you can change). It would be good to round off several edges and fillet corners, but the motivation for this escapes me. Once I've completed a print, I'll add in additional positional washers. This is designed to be used in the customizer and should show the whole reel during the design stage. This was modeled first to ensure the design went according to plan. You can feed in the reel width and its flange width. As with the design inspiration, the assumption is that you will use skateboard bearings. I purchased these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TRIXES-Frictionless-Skateboard-Roller-Bearings/dp/B00EPNN62M/ref=sr_1_8?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1440939621&sr=1-8&keywords=skateboard+bearings. They roll silently with no detectable friction.
