Universal IR Sensor Board Mount
thingiverse
This print assumes you are familiar with how an IR Sensor Probe works and how to use it on different surfaces, and have configured it to your printer's needs. I am not liable for any damage caused by this print. This Universal IR Sensor Probe Mount is a board mount designed specifically for the sensor board from MiscSolutions. It has been engineered around a Ultimate Greg's Wade's Extruder with a J-Head MK IV-B, but can be adapted to anything with a groove mounting system with tweaking and experimentation. For the pre-made STL files, the fixed one measures 50mm in length. The adjustable one features a 50mm attachment and a 30mm sensor mount. When the hotend is resting on the bed, aim to position it as close to the bed as you feel comfortable without it rubbing against the bed. The optimal level is approximately 1.5 to 2.5 mm away from the bed. This print may curl away from the heat, so a thicker attachment might be necessary. In the default configuration with my hotend, the board begins detecting the bed at about 1.5mm away from it. Make sure the back of the sensor board faces the extruder to minimize the risk of damaging the board from heat and flying plastic specs. Mistakes were made. I use ABS, and my printer features PET covered glass on a MK3 Heatbed. A well-painted surface is necessary for reliable detection of the glass. In short, ensure your surface is reliably detectable. I also encountered an issue with the adjustable mount not being very kind. It turned out that my measurements fit my hotend perfectly, and this led to the creation of the fixed mount.
