Universal holder for 51-60mm spools
thingiverse
Human: Easy to use universal spool holder suitable for any popular spool diameter 51-60mm. No complicated mounting necessary, just plug&go. I designed this holder after creating several others and researching various types, but I believe this one is the best :)\nI initially created it for my X3D printer's side mount, but I've added a "flat" version for any flat surface.\nThe holder features two ball bearings and a braking system to prevent uncontrolled filament unwinding. During printing, it produces a quiet "tik-tik-tik" sound, which I don't think is annoying. You can choose not to use the brake or add felt between moving parts. In my opinion, the described brake design is better.\nMaterials needed:\n1) Printed parts (note: part A has two options)\n2) 2x ball bearing 6905 (25x42x9mm)\n3) Springs - you can use 1-3 depending on their hardness. I used 4x2 springs, 14x7.5x0.6mm, and it works fine.\n4) A few mm of springy wire or strip (a small watch spring part is ideal). I used 0.5mm springy wire from an old spring.\n5) 4x screw M3x20 or woodscrew 3x20 with countersunk head.\nSome mounting tips:\nyou can easily install springs using a small metal ruler or similar tool. Just push the springs into holes, assemble the body, and remove the ruler.\nspringy wire/stripe can be mounted in place using glue or by melting plastic around it (I used this method).
