Universal Filament Spool Hub
thingiverse
Universal Filament Spool Hub (Uholder1.stl and Uholder2.stl) reduces friction in spool rotation, improving print quality. Excessive friction can lower the quality of prints. The hub stays with the spool during storage, no need to remove or replace it before printing. Design priorities were: - Minimize friction; - Accommodate various spool widths and hole diameters; - Keep the hub width minimal (to fit more spools in a container); - Easy, fast, secure lock/unlock on the spool (breech-lock used); - Use on printers or within containers; - Easy to build, few parts needed; - Minimal plastic use; - No support required (disable it); Using bearings was unnecessary due to low friction from PLA and 6mm metal rod. Included are Rod holders (AxelHolder.stl) for Original Prusa printers and containers (BarHolder1.stl and BarHolder2.stl). Use AxelHolder.stl to fit the Prusa spool holders. BarHolder1.stl and BarHolder2.stl account for container tilt, allowing side placement. Double-sided mounting tape attaches holders to sides. 6mm metal rods without threads are available on eBay.
