Universal Filament Spool Holder
thingiverse
This project brings together two existing solutions for a filament spool holder, giving credit to the original designers: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:52927 and http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:467008. I liked both designs, but found that the spool ends of the "Simple Holder" didn't fit perfectly with my chosen spools. Combining the stands from this solution with the "Spool Holder with Bearings" from the other one seemed like a more universal approach. To achieve this, only a minor modification was necessary: the spool ends themselves were left untouched, designed as they were for 6mm bearings (17x6x6). However, the stand didn't fit to the spool ends - it was originally designed for an 8mm threaded rod. So, I changed the hole size to 6mm. The completed filament spool holder consists of several components: - 2 printed Stands - 2 printed spool ends - 4 bearings (17x6x6mm) - 1 threaded rod (300mm long - the length depends on your requirements) - 4 normal 6mm nuts (two on each side to prevent loosening during operation) - 2 6mm wing nuts - 6 6mm washers - Anti-slipping stickers for the bottom of the stands to prevent movement during use The spool holder should operate with very low friction and fit most types of filament spools. Print Settings: Printer: Dremel Idea Builder 3D40 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 25% Post-Printing: Size of the holes: Although the 3D model is precise, the printed objects' holes needed a bit of sanding (about 0.1 - 0.2 mm). This may be due to printer tolerance; if you experience the same issue, try scaling the object size to fix it.
