After conducting an exhaustive search and examining numerous printed holders, I remained dissatisfied with all of them due to their inability to accommodate my various-sized reels without requiring frequent adjustments to the wheels. Consequently, I designed a universal holder that can fit any size of filament up to 11cm in diameter. This innovative design also features a compact storage compartment for the filament clip, which can be omitted if desired by printing two additional left-hand holders. A major concern with smooth-holding reels is that they tend to oscillate and shift during printing, resulting in unpredictable behavior and potential loss of the reel. To address this issue, I incorporated a bump into the right side of the roller, thereby securing the reel firmly in place. This design enhancement ensures stable performance and prevents filament from falling off. In recognition of MartinMajewski's contribution to the open-source community (specifically, his printed holder design), I retained and utilized the nuts and spacers from my previous experience with his product (Thingiverse ID: 1832235). I would like to express my gratitude to Martin for allowing me to build upon his work. For those Prusa owners without an enclosure, this solution is particularly beneficial. By printing two of my rollers in conjunction with Martin's holders, users can achieve a comprehensive and efficient setup. To assemble the holder, you will need to print two rollers, four spacers, and four nuts. I recommend using a resolution of 0.10 for printing the nuts, while other components can be produced at a higher resolution (0.20). Alternatively, you may opt to use metal nuts instead, in which case safety nuts with nylon locking features will ensure secure retention. In addition to the printed parts, you will require four type 608 bearings and two M8 threaded rods, each approximately 17cm long. The assembly process is straightforward, and I have found it convenient to attach the holder to my printer's top plate while feeding filament through a hole into the extruder. To complete the setup, I recommend drilling a 20mm hole through the board and combining the two parts of the guide.
