Universal Filament Filter and Lubricator

thingiverse

This handy compact gadget helps safeguard your filament-based 3D printer against two widespread problems - dust and friction. A bit of sponge efficiently wipes the filament clean of any pesky dust particles, preventing them from clogging up the extruder. By dripping a few drops of ordinary household mineral oil onto the sponge, the filament moving through gets lubricated, thus easing the extruder motor's workload. Lubrication is particularly beneficial if the filament needs to travel down long tubes before it reaches the extruder. It also significantly reduces friction within the extruder below the drive-wheel, where the filament compresses on its way down to the hot-end. It has a smaller exit hole for the filament, which stops the PTFE filament guide tube from entering the filter.
