Universal Dual Filament Dragon Clip

Universal Dual Filament Dragon Clip

thingiverse

This is a spool filament clip that prints quickly, uses only about 1 gram of filament (0.33 meters of 1.75 mm filament), and is incredibly easy to use. It clips onto the spool of any brand of filament, making it a universal clip that can handle both 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm filaments. Its unique dragon shape earns it the nickname Universal Dual-Filament Dragon Clip. To use it, simply snap the filament in from the back of the head to secure it and slide the filament out from the side to release it - a straightforward process that makes this clip extremely user-friendly. --- Variations There are 6 variations of the clip available: UniversalDualFilamentDragonClip.stl - 4.2 mm thin UniversalDualFilamentDragonClip-thick.stl - 6.35 mm thick UniversalDualFilamentDragonClip-NoSpikes.stl - 4.2 mm thin, no spikes on back UniversalDualFilamentDragonClip-thick-NoSpikes.stl - 6.35 mm thick, no spikes on back UniversalDualFilamentDragonClip-FullSpikes.stl - 4.2 mm thin, spikes are full thickness UniversalDualFilamentDragonClip-thick-FullSpikes.stl - 6.35 mm thick, spikes are full thickness --- Why another filament clip? I've always relied on filament clips that attach to the filament itself, but I was curious to try one that clips onto the spool instead. After searching Thingiverse for the best design, I found one that seemed like a top choice - but it had errors when loaded into the slicer and unwanted branding. To fix these issues, I used netfabb basic to remove the errors and Blender to remove the branding. Since the original clip was unnecessarily large, I created a thinner version by scaling down the Z dimension from 6.35 mm to 4.2 mm - and it works just as well! I included both the original-sized and thinner clips since some users pointed out that the thinner ones can get stuck in Prusament spools. I also made versions with no spikes on the back for those who store their spools in plastic zip-lock bags, and versions with full-thickness spikes to avoid overhangs. --- Credit to Original Designer This is a simple remix of [Khaleesi Clip Dual Sized Filament Clip 1.75 & 2.85mm by sneaks](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3269752) - all credit for this excellent design goes to *[sneaks](https://www.thingiverse.com/sneaks/about)*, who created the original design that I've simply modified by removing errors and branding, scaling down the Z dimension, and adding different variations.
