Of course, if you have an appropriate size vise you can just clamp the Dremel tool directly in the vise jaws - but this risks damaging the tool with excessive pressure. With this holder you can securely clamp your Dremel tool for mounting on a vise without risking damage to the tool.

This print is designed to hold your Dremel rotary tool so that it can be mounted safely in a vise. I call it “universal” because the design works with Dremel models with both 47mm and 50mm diameter, but it is not a “one size fits all” - you will need to print a different clamp pieces for each diameter of Dremel. I should also note that I do not have the resources to test this holder with every Dremel model available, so it is possible that there is some model that will not work with it. However, if your Dremel tool has a diameter of either 47mm or 50mm it will likely work.

In addition to the printed parts, this holder also requires the following fasteners :

M5x20 flat head screw + hex nut (to hold down the body clamp C1)

M5x16 socket head screw + hex nut (to tighten the body clamp C1)

M5X30 socket head screw + hex nut (to tighten the neck clamp C2)

Assembly

The holder clamps the Dremel tool at the “neck” and “body” (see the photos). Different models of Dremel tool not only have differing body and neck diameters, but in addition the distance between the neck and body also vary. For this reason the body clamp can be fastened down in several different positions.

Start by sliding the two parts of the neck clamp onto the body as shown in the photos, leaving them as far apart as possible for the moment,

Put a hex nut into the recess in the bottom inside of the body clamp, and insert the Dremel tool into the clamp.

Position the Dremel tool so that the body clamp rests in the groove of the Base, and position the Dremel so that the neck of the tool fits into the neck clamp. Position the body clamp over the appropriate mounting hole in the bottom of the Base, insert a flat head screw, and tighten down the body clamp.

Push the two parts of the neck clamp together so that they clamp the neck of the Dremel equally, and use the 5x30 socket screw and nut to tighten the neck clamp.

Finally, use the M5x16 socket screw and nut to tighten the body clamp.

You can now clamp the entire assembly in a vise using the “foot” on the bottom of the Base (see photos).

Print Instructions

Note that there are two sets of prints - one for 47mm diameter, and one for 50mm diameter tools. The Base pieces are identical for both, but the clamp pieces are different and must be used as matched sets. If you print both sets, I recommend printing the clamp sets in two different colors so they don't get mixed up.

Print in PETG using the 3mf or gcode files provided; otherwise :

Clamps : 4 perimeters, 15% rectilinear infill, painted supports for the screw and nut holes

Base : 3 perimeters, 10% rectilinear infill. There is also a box modifier for the “foot” section for 20% rectilinear infill (to reinforce the part that will be clamped in a vise).

CAD

https://cad.onshape.com/documents/d0c286440682f977c39ac4a2/w/1a5bce60902b9795718eb89c/e/2948c24afebef3486a351fed
