A universal joint, also known as universal coupling, U-joint, Cardan joint, Spicer or Hardy Spicer joint, or Hooke's joint, connects rods with inclined axes in systems transmitting rotary motion via shafts. It features two nearby hinges oriented at 90° to each other and linked by a cross shaft; however, it doesn't ensure constant velocity.
