A universal joint, also known as a universal coupling, U-joint, Cardan joint, Hardy-Spicer joint or Hooke's joint, is a component that permits a rigid rod to bend in any direction while transmitting rotary motion. It features two hinges placed close together, oriented at 90° from each other and connected by a cross shaft, making it suitable for shaft applications.
