A coupling, often termed a universal joint, enables parts of a device that are not aligned to have restricted movement in various directions while transmitting rotary motion. It's also known as a universal coupling which is used for connecting two rotating shafts and allowing them to move freely in all directions; for instance, it facilitates the driveshaft's movement up and down when a motor vehicle traverses bumps.
