Universal joints, also known as U-joints, Cardan joints, Spicer or Hardy Spicer joints, and Hooke's joints, are connections for linking rods with inclined axes. Frequently used in shafts transferring rotary motion, they comprise two adjacent hinges at 90° angles, connected via a cross shaft. However, universal joints do not guarantee constant velocity.
