Universal Corner Bracket for Dimensional Lumber Shelving or Tables
thingiverse
This bracket can be used to join horizontal 2x3 (recommended) or 2x4 dimensional lumber to a 2x3, 2x4 or 4x4 vertical member. Alternatively, two can be used at each corner to join 2x6 members to 2x4 or 4x4 vertical members, just flip one upside down and slide it over the top (eighth inch hardboard or plywood should be a pretty close fit for spacing between the top member and work surface.) This bracket takes along time to print but is more tolerant of unsquare cuts and tearouts than butt joints and lap joints, and holds the pieces in place during assembly without clamping. I tend to assemble it upside down so the ground aligns the top surfaces. Think of it like a strong-tie RTC with a little more flexibility. I don't know what the maximum load is, but they can hold all 215lbs of me up without an issue! Use #8x1.5" (4.0x40mm) washer head screws for wood, cabinetry, decking, or structural applications. Alternatively use countersunk heads with countersink washers, countersunk heads on their own will wedge the layers apart. Do not use drywall screws, they are for drywall and not for load bearing applications. UPDATE: There are now two versions, version 3 has fully bored holes in convenient locations. This works great if you don't have a drill, but I find it to be a little wobbly so I created version 4 with locating divots for drilling additional holes. Counting from the corner, use hole 1, holes 1 & 3, or holes 2 & 3, depending on how your legs are configured. SECOND UPDATE: I've made a [smaller version](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4908177) of this specifically for use with 2x3's, it prints faster and is a little more rigid. Check it out. If you decide to add extra screw holes try to offset them along the layer lines and grain of the wood. (I've already done that as best i can with the provided holes.) Share your builds!
