Universal Charging Dock Base with Single Hand Ejector

Universal Charging Dock Base with Single Hand Ejector

The phone dock by eirikso (thing:1655546) has been functioning flawlessly for quite some time until my wife suffered a broken arm, forcing her to rely on just one hand to release her phone from the charging plug and lift it out of the dock without disturbing the entire assembly. Some individuals have chosen to glue the base directly onto their desk, which seemed like an extreme measure, so I decided to brainstorm a solution. I've remodeled the Universal Base slightly by importing the original STL file into Tinkercad and added two mounting holes, one on either side. Next, I designed a simple yet effective lever device that attaches to the new holes in the base and is operated with one hand to "eject" the phone upwards just enough to release it from the charging plug without causing it to fly across the room! The phone can then be easily lifted straight out of the dock. To complete the dock, you will still need to print (or already possess) the "first" and "second" parts of eirikso's design tailored specifically to your phone. The lever device, which I've dubbed the "Ejector," simply springs open sufficiently to fit into the mounting holes in the modified Universal Dock Base. I've included two STL files for the Ejector: one with the text as shown and one without any text. It works so well that I've printed one for my phone dock too!
