Universal Camera Phone/Microscope Adapter
thingiverse
This adapter securely attaches almost any phone to most microscopes for capturing still images or video, or as a digital display. After numerous iterations and tests, I designed this adapter myself with my PI's assistance, borrowing the 'knobby knob' from Thing #26752. The deep eyepiece clamps allow focus adjustment due to varying optimal distances between phone cameras and microscope eyepieces. Disconnected eyepiece clamps accommodate a range of eyepiece diameters. Sliding phone supports fit various phones, such as the Nexus 4 pictured. To print, duplicate each part: one adapter body (flipped if camera is on right), outer and inner clamps, and three sliding supports. Print five knobs - round or knobby. Attach body to inner clamp with ABS juice or alternative adhesive. Gather materials: three 1.25" #6-32 machine screws, two 4" #6-32 machine screws, and ten #6-32 nuts. Assemble as directed using pliers and a screwdriver. Drill holes in eyepiece clamps and sliding supports for smoother screw movement. Add Sugru for better grip if desired. Capture stunning images by adjusting the adapter position until edges are focused.
