"Universal" Ball Bearing Spool Holder

"Universal" Ball Bearing Spool Holder

This is an updated design for the top mount spool holder I created for my MP mini delta, built on the MP Maker Pro Mk1. The filament reels don't turn smoothly at all on the stock holder of the MK1, and this part ensures that the spool turns smoothly regardless of how much weight it holds. Also, the original spool holder didn't fit several of the wider reels I tried, so this fixes that problem too. In theory, this is a universal part because it can be easily mounted to T-channel aluminum bars. It has 45x45 mm T-channel aluminum for the gantry and the stock filament holder screws into T-channel nuts with M4 bolts. This uses both of those hardware parts and in theory can be mounted on any T-channel in a similar way. Many printers use T-channel for the upper gantry, so this should work well for them too. The ball bearing is a 1/4" high-speed drill bearing from my local hardware store. Wrapping some painter's tape around the bearing seats it nicely in the bearing sleeve, which is then pounded into the spool holder.
