This small accessory aids in maintaining your FFF 3D printer filament, addressing two common issues - cleaning and lubrication. A sponge effectively wipes off dust particles from the filament, preventing clogging of the extruder. To further reduce strain on the extruder motor, apply a few drops of mineral oil onto the sponge, allowing it to lubricate the filament as it passes through. This is particularly beneficial when the filament has to travel long distances before reaching the extruder. To use this accessory, 3D print the provided STL file and insert a small piece of sponge into the filament filter. Poke a hole in the sponge to ensure smooth passage of the filament. Soak the sponge with mineral oil (as used for sewing machines, door hinges, or bicycle chains). Place the filament filter between the spool and extruder, or before the filament enters a guiding tube if you have one.
