United States Marine Corps Insignia
thingiverse
For Christmas, my dad requested I create something with my 3D printer and I was eager to comply with his wishes since he's a former Marine with a strong sense of pride. As such, I thought it would be fitting to add his military insignia to some golf accessories that I designed specifically for him. The project started with a 3D file obtained from an online resource which contained the ring design, and after slicing it using Netfabb's cutting-edge software, I cleaned up the file further in Tinkercad, utilizing its user-friendly interface to optimize the shape. Then, with a dash of creativity, I used Netfabb again to repair any potential defects within the model. Ultimately, I sent the print job to my trusty Printrbot, cranking it out at 200% scale for extra clarity - and remember, when scaling up your prints in the future, adjust accordingly to achieve optimal results. By including Penny's silhouette in the shot as a size reference, we can visually gauge just how small the insignia looks in its larger context. It became apparent after reviewing my latest print that it truly does need to be enlarged further to reveal more intricate details and prevent any distorted or stringy mess that might detract from the design - case in point: those rope-wrapped elements of the anchor that now appear haphazardly printed can actually add a neat textured effect.
