The Mutual Aid Association "Unione e Benevolenza", founded on April 28, 1861 and now the property owner, constructed this building in stages. Initially, in 1870, a local solidarity aid center was built, along with housing for immigrants and their children. A school was later established, evolving into the Private Institute "Dante Alighieri". The current building began taking shape at the Maipú and San Juan intersection in 1943 as a 15-story tower, housing 30 apartments and three commercial spaces. Completed ahead of its time, it stands as one of the city's first high-rise structures, followed by an expansion project launched in 1986 with the construction of a confectionery shop. Designed by Picasso Tower, Fernandez Days and Funes, this project involved Muniagurria, Arroyo and Spillet, the construction company responsible for its development. Architectural features include travertine marble-clad facades, polished cedar doors, and intricately designed balconies on the first six floors. Its status as a Rationalist building earns it protection under Category 2B of the D.3 Plan of Urban Heritage Preservation.
