Unimog 406 simplified cnc/laser
thingiverse
Looking for another model to feature my super-cool rotary engraved tires I came across the iconic Mercedes Benz Unimog. The versatile 4x4 truck was pioneered in 1945 and the 406-series began rolling out in 1963. The name is an abbreviation of Universal-Motor-Gerät. My build was crafted on a desktop CNC machine by Stepcraft using a spiral-toothed 1.2 mm flute. I utilized 6.5 mm beech plywood and 20 mm acacia wood for the tires, which were engraved with my poor man's 4th axis solution. Two 6 mm beech rods formed the axles, while nylon spacers ensured low friction. A laser cutter could be a suitable alternative tool to create smaller versions, as long as you can find a way to replicate the engraved tires.
