Unimog 406 simplified cnc/laser

Looking for another model to showcase my super-cool rotary engraved tires, I came across the iconic Mercedes Benz Unimog. This versatile 4x4 truck was first developed in 1945 and the 406-series kicked off in 1963. The name "Unimog" is a clever abbreviation of Universal-Motor-Gerät. My build was precision-crafted on a desktop CNC machine by Stepcraft using a specially designed 1.2 mm flute with spiral teeth. I chose to work with 6.5 mm beech plywood and 20 mm acacia wood for the tires, which were intricately engraved using my own DIY 4th axis setup. The axles are made from two sturdy 6 mm beech rods, while nylon spacers ensure a smooth ride by minimizing friction. For smaller versions of this design, a laser cutter could be an excellent alternative tool. However, you'll need to find a creative solution for engraving the tires themselves.
