Uniformly perforated objects: a useful drainstrainer example
thingiverse
Find a drain-strainer for a 57mm drain hole on your laundry trough, which experiences large water inflows and is prone to clogging due to fluff. To address this problem, a small Rhino/Grasshopper model was created, taking an arbitrary revolution profile and uniformly piercing it. The result effectively prevents clogging and also provides a computational geometry model that can create uniformly spaced perforations in an arbitrary revolved solid. The downloadable files include: printable STL, Rhino3D model, Grasshopper computational geometry model for production of a uniformly perforated revolved solid from an arbitrary profile, and STEP model (with no parametric capability). These model files can be scaled to fit any sized plug hole. If you use Rhino3D, the included Grasshopper file is invaluable for generating uniformly spaced perforations in any revolved solid. Adjustable parameters include spacings, wall widths, and piercing scales within the GH model. You can even substitute any arbitrary closed curve for the circle used to create complex piercings if desired!
