Hands-free door opening handles are designed to mount directly onto regular door handles with a diameter of approximately 20 mm, working seamlessly on both round and edgy handle types. We utilize these hands-free door openers in publicly used doors at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Bundeswehr University in Munich. To prevent the handle from turning, simply place some rubber underneath it. A cut piece of old bike tube serves perfectly for this purpose. The two halves are secured with four M4x16 or M4x20 bolts and nuts, requiring careful tightening to ensure proper fitment. We printed these hands-free door openers using an Ultimaker ABS without the need for support material. PLA can also be used as an alternative printing material. Our settings included a 20% gyroid infill and approximately 2 mm wall thickness. Due to the small contact area, we experienced occasional issues with warping during the printing process; however, this did not affect the final part's functionality. Building on a raft might offer a viable solution to mitigate these issues. For those interested in mounting the hands-free door opener on vertical handle bars, there is an additional model available on Thingiverse at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4463241. Happy printing!
