UniBw hands free door opener
thingiverse
Hands-free door opening handle designed to be mounted on vertical handle bars, available in two versions for 20mm, 30 mm and 35 mm diameter of the handle bar. Our team utilizes this innovative solution at the department of mechanical engineering of the Bundeswehr University Munich. To prevent the handle from turning, we recommend placing a rubber piece underneath it. A cut-up section of an old bike tube works perfectly for this purpose. The two halves are secured with four M4x16 or M4x20 bolts and nuts, which should be tightened carefully. We have successfully printed this design using Ultimaker ABS and Fillamentum ASA without support, as they will be outdoors. PLA can also be used, but settings may vary. Our recommended settings include 20% gyroid infill and about 2 mm wall thickness. Occasional issues with warping were encountered due to the small contact area, but this did not affect the final part. Building on a raft might be an alternative option.
