sketchfab
Museum Object (MO) number: 30 Material: black granite Other numbers: Mus. 40 Provenance: Memphis, Kôm el-Fakhry Period: Third Intermediate Period, 23rd Dynasty, Pedubast This life-sized seated statue of King Pedubast, carved from a block of shiny black granite, stands unfinished, yet complete with the back pillar's polished and inscribed surface. Details of his body, such as muscles, fingers, and toes, remain uncarved, but the king wears a royal kilt and sits confidently on a throne, his hands flat on his thighs. Pedubast is unmistakably identified by the names listed in the columns of inscriptions etched into the three faces of the back pillar. These inscriptions also mention the revered main local god Ptah, along with two of his well-known hybrid forms worshipped in Memphis: Ptah-Tatenen, literally "he-of-the-risen-ground," and Ptah-Sokar, Sokar being the patron deity of the Memphite necropolis who was often assimilated to Ptah and Osiris.
