Prior to this lesson, students will engage in a unit of study around lines and angles. This lesson introduces two pieces of technology, Google Draw and Tinkercad, to demonstrate learning about lines and angles. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts: No Supports: No Overview and Background Students will create their own keychain design that demonstrates their understanding of lines and angles using Google Draw. Students will use Tinkercad to incorporate their Google Draw design into a keychain design. Lesson Plan and Activity Lesson Overview Duration: Approximately 10 minutes Approximate Lesson Duration: 1 week Understanding the Lesson Video Materials Needed Tinkercad Google Draw PLA Lesson Part 1: Designing on Google Draw Share the overview and challenge of the project. Introduce students to Google Draw, where they can directly design or draw their design on paper. Lesson Part 2: Converting Google Draw to .SVG Export designs from Google Draw as .jpg or .png files for conversion to .svg using Picsvg.com. Tinkercad allows import of either an .svg or .stl file. Lesson Part 3: Creating the Keychain in Tinkercad Students create a base for their design with a hole or ring attachment. Discuss millimeters, as Tinkercad and 3D printing use the metric system. Lesson Part 4: Printing Export designs from Tinkercad as .stl files and share them with the teacher for final printing. Printing takes approximately 30 minutes per design. No rafts, no supports, resolution is 0.2 mm, infill is 10%. Materials Needed Google Draw (use MakerBot PrintShop or Morphi) Tinkercad Rubric and Assessment Skills Learned (Standards) Draw and identify lines and angles, classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles.
