UMX Ultrix nose wheel
thingiverse
Ever wanted to land and take off with the UMX Ultrix? Now you can! Print this nose gear set and transform your Ultrix. The Ultrix comes with a nose skid that plugs into a pocket under the nose. However, the stock skid only works on hard smooth surfaces. On artificial grass like you find in most indoor flying sites, it has too much drag and you can't move. With this wheel, however, you can easily land, take off and even taxi on artificial grass. You can even do silly stuff like aerial donuts.... Taxi straight until it gets light, then apply full rudder. If you do it right, the plane will lift into the air and pirouette. All you need is the nose wheel, the rear of the plane just drags on the ground. The stock nose gear slot on the Ultrix is only about 1mm wide which makes the printed nose gear weak where it enters the slot. To address this, I designed the strut with a pocket for a 30mm length of 0.031" music wire. Just slide it in... it should be a snug sliding fit. With the wire reinforcement, the gear is plenty strong. The wheel retainer is designed to be a snug press fit on the axle. However, due to printing tolerances, it might be a bit too loose to stay in place. If so, a drop of thick CA or other glue will hold it. DO NOT use thin CA... it can wick along the striations of the axle and glue the wheel to the axle.
