After countless hours of flying, I've found my go-to modification for UMXs in winter to be the most reliable option. They also perform exceptionally well on larger planes like the Timber, making them perfect for tail skiing. To keep them stable, attach a small and lightweight bungee or rubber band to the ski tips and a thin fishing line or floss to the rear, ensuring they stay upright during flat flying attitudes. For maximum versatility, it's best to install new main gear on your UMX and modify them so you can easily switch back and forth between setups. The stock tail wheel is more than capable of handling light snow conditions and can be used as a makeshift break by pulling back hard on the elevator. On a separate note, winter flying requires some extra precautions. To keep batteries warm, store them in your pocket at all times. Adding a thin layer of closed-cell foam or thick tape to cover the battery will also help protect it from the cold. After 5-10 flights, the main board inside may start to malfunction due to the prolonged exposure to cold temperatures. Don't forget to take advantage of winter flying conditions by performing some stylish skid and drift maneuvers, Alaskan style!
