There are many ways to resolve the issue where the display stays on and the fan keeps running when the USB cable is plugged in. One approach is to remove the ARD_PWR jumper near the electronics fan socket. However, this solution has a significant drawback: you will no longer be able to run your Ultimaker without an active USB connection, even if you attempt to print from a microSD card, since the Arduino board will only receive power through the external power supply or the USB cable. Another method is described on the Ultimaker community forum. This involves disabling the USB power feature by desoldering the polyfuse and soldering a bridge across it. While this solution works effectively, it may appear somewhat messy to some individuals. A simpler alternative is to simply remove the MOSFET device that serves as a switch to supply the +5V voltage from the USB connection to the Arduino board. You can see a picture illustrating this above; just desolder the three-pin component located within the red circle. By examining the other images, you will gain insight into why this approach is effective. To access this component, you need to remove the fan from the electronics section and disassemble the Ultimaker shield from the Arduino board by gently pulling it off. Be extremely cautious while desoldering, as you can easily damage your hardware. A good idea is to cover the electronics with kapton foil and cut a small hole for the MOSFET. This will enable you to desolder it using hot air without causing any harm to the surrounding components.
